قُوا أَنفُسَكم وأهْليكم ناراً

  Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) says in the Qur’an:

{ يا أيها الذين آمَنوا قُوا أَنفُسَكم وأهْليكم ناراً.. }

{O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your family from a Fire..}

Lessons:

* In this noble verse of the Qur’an, Allah is commanding the believers to be serious in safeguarding themselves and their family from the Hellfire. * To safeguard and protect the family means to ensure they live by the commandments of Allah and to avoid his prohibitions.

* All fathers and providers of the household have a duty to their family that involves teaching them the obligatory aspects of their religion which is the fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) on all daily actions. We must not fall short in this or neglect this. How can it be that we are aware of our duty to learn Islamic knowledge and prevent our wives from learning it as well? How can our children learn the teachings of Islam unless their parents instil it in them?

* The first school is the mother so make sure for the sake of your children that you choose a righteous wife.

* The need to train, nurture and teach Islamic values, norms and principles to our family is all the more serious given the context of the widespread assault on Islam, Shari`ah and the Muslim family by the corrupt West and their evil values.

We should really ponder over the state of our iman and our relationship with Allah and our family. If we’re not aware of the fitn our siblings, etc go through and we’re not giving them dawah or addressing these problems, then be afraid of the kinda dawah they might be getting from others who may or may not be Muslim. Recently I’ve been hearing some disturbing things that some sisters are faced with in high school and sometimes these things escalate too quickly because their family don’t pay enough attention to them. We need to stop worrying about what Khadijah, Omar, Asiya or Ali is doing and start worrying more about what our sibling is doing locked up in their room on their phone, start worrying about how they haven’t got true love of this deen and the Quraan, start worrying about how they don’t know what age the prophet received revelation and the basics of tawheed! We also need to sincerely ask ourselves if we know these basic things…or have we neglected ourselves whilst worrying about the state of others??

And Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) knows best
